Westfield Hockey: A Tradition of Excellence

From humble beginnings in 1978, the field hockey program has developed into one of the premier High School programs in the state of Massachusetts. Under the guidance of Head Coach Bill O’Neill, the team has captured 13 league titles, 11 district championships, and 4 State Championships

Introduction

Westfield high school has a long and proud tradition of excellence in hockey. The program has produced many Great players over the years and has been a perennial power in the state of Massachusetts.

The team plays its home games at the Westfield Sports Complex which is located on the campus of Westfield State University The complex includes two NHL-size ice rinks, a Pro Shop, and a full-service restaurant.

The team is currently coached by John Krupinski, who is in his second year at the helm. Coach Krupinski played hockey at Westfield high school and then went on to play four years of Division I college hockey at the University of Maine He brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to the program.

The team is captained by senior defenseman Matt Murphy. Murphy has been with the program for four years and is one of its most experienced players. He is a strong leader on and off the ice and is respected by his teammates.

The team’s leading scorer is junior forward Alex O’Neill. O’Neill joined the team last year after transferring from another high school He has quickly become one of its most important players.

The field hockey program has a long tradition of success. The team is committed to continuing that tradition this year and strives to be one of the best teams in the state.

History

Field hockey has a long and proud tradition of excellence. The program has produced many great players over the years who have gone on to have successful careers at the collegiate and professional levels. The team has also won its fair share of championships, including five state titles and two National Championships

Field Hockey is more than just a team, though; it’s a tight-knit community that supports one another through thick and thin. That sense of camaraderie is what makes the program so special, and it’s something that all of the players, coaches, and families involved take great pride in.

Program Highlights

Since its inception in 1922, the Field Hockey program has been one of the premier hockey programs in the country. The program has produced numerous All-Americans, Olympians, and professional players, and has won 12 national championships. In addition to its success on the ice, the program is also known for its tradition of academic excellence, with many of its players going on to successful careers in business, law, and medicine.

Notable Alumni

Field hockey has a long history of success on the ice, dating back to the early 1900s. The program has produced many excellent players over the years, some of whom have gone on to successful careers in the National Hockey League Here is a list of some of the most notable Field Hockey alumni:

-Tom Barrasso: A two-time Stanley Cup winner and Olympic silver medalist, Barrasso is one of the most decorated goaltenders in NHL history He played for Westfield from 1979 to 1982, before going on to star at Boston College

-Chris Drury: A member of the “Miracle on Ice” team that won the gold medal at the 1980 Olympics, Drury had a successful NHL career that spanned more than a decade. He played for Westfield from 1994 to 1996, before going on to play at Boston University

-Brian Gionta: A Stanley Cup winner with the New Jersey Devils in 2003, Gionta is currently captain of the Buffalo Sabres He played for Westfield from 1994 to 1996, before going on to star at Boston College

-Rob Scuderi: A Stanley Cup winner with the Pittsburgh Penguins in 2009, Scuderi is currently a member of the Los Angeles Kings He played for Westfield from 1995 to 1997, before going on to play at Boston College

Coaching Staff

The Field Hockey program has been a tradition of excellence since it started in 1975. The program has produced many great players, coaches, and teams over the years. The Coaching Staff is committed to continuing this tradition of excellence.

The head coach of the field hockey program is Mr. Ryan Dingle. Coach Dingle has been with the program for 15 years and has been the Head Coach for the past 10 years. He is a graduate of Westfield high school and played on the varsity Hockey Team for four years. He then went on to play college hockey at UMass-Amherst where he was a two-time captain and led the team to two Frozen Four appearances. After college, Coach Dingle played professional hockey for six years before returning to Westfield to start his coaching career.

The assistant coaches are Mrs. Amy Dupuis and Mr. Steve Brown. Mrs. Dupuis is in her fifth year with the program and was an Assistant Coach on the Westfield high school girls’ Hockey Team for two years before joining the staff at field hockey Mr. Brown is in his first year with the program and brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to the staff. He played Junior hockey in Canada for four years re Playing college hockey at Northeastern University. He then went on to have a successful professional career, playing in both the NHL and AHL.

Facilities

field hockey is committed to providing our athletes with the best possible training and playing facilities. We are proud to offer two state-of-the-art facilities, the Westfield sports complex and the Westfield Training Center.

The Westfield sports complex is our primary training and playing facility. The Complex includes two NHL-sized ice rinks, a training center, locker rooms and a pro shop. The Complex is home to our Junior A, B, and C teams, as well as our youth and adult recreation leagues.

The Westfield Training Center is our new state-of-the-art training facility. The Training Center features a full-size gymnasium, a Turf Field locker rooms, and a nutritional center. The Training Center is home to our Junior A, B, and C teams, as well as our youth and adult recreation leagues.

This year, the Westfield hockey team is celebrating its 50th anniversary. In honor of this occasion, we are offering a special ticket package for the entire season. The package includes a ticket to our home opener a commemorative Westfield hockey puck and a $50 gift certificate to our team store.
