It was here that he began to play competitively and developed his skills as a player.
Barletta played Junior hockey for the Toronto Marlies before being drafted into the NHL by the Pittsburgh Penguins in 2007. He made his NHL debut with the Penguins in 2008 and went on to win a Stanley Cup with the team in 2009. After a few seasons with the Penguins, Barletta was traded to the Tampa Bay Lightning in 2012. He played for the Lightning for two seasons before being traded again, this time to the Chicago Blackhawks where he currently plays.

Born in Toronto, Ontario, Barletta began playing minor hockey in the GTHL for the Wexford Raiders. In 2009, he was drafted by the Mississauga St. Michael’s Majors in the sixth round 114th overall of the Ontario Hockey League (OHL) Priority Selection. After parts of three seasons with Mississauga, he was traded to the Sudbury Wolves late in his rookie year. Barletta’s overage season with Sudbury was cut short due to a concussion, having only appeared in three games.

Barletta, 37, was drafted by the Rangers in the 2003 NHL Entry Draft and made his NHL debut with the team in 2006. He played four seasons with the Rangers before being traded to the Bruins in 2010. He played six seasons with the Bruins before being bought out of his contract in 2016.
Since then, Barletta has been playing Professional Hockey in Europe. He spent two seasons with HC Lugano in Switzerland and one season with HC Fribourg-Gotteron. He most recently played for HC Ambri-Piotta of the Swiss National League A.
In 14 seasons of NHL play, Barletta tallied 39 goals and 87 assists for a total of 126 points. He also appeared in 18 Playoff Games tallying two goals and two assists.
