With the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang, South Korea just around the corner, all eyes are on the athletes who will be representing their countries in a range of different sporting events. One of the most popular sports at the Winter Olympics is hockey, and this year’s games are sure to be just as exciting as ever.
Both the men’s and women’s tournaments will feature twelve teams from all around the world, including powerhouse nations such as Canada, the United States and Russia. The women’s tournament will begin on February 10th with a match between Switzerland and Korea, while the men’s tournament will start one day later on February 11th with a game between Finland and Sweden.
As we wait for the Olympics to begin, let’s take a look at how the twelve teams competing in the women’s tournament stack up against each other.
The United States
The United States currently sits atop the standings in the 2018 Winter Olympics women’s Hockey Tournament They have yet to lose a game, winning both of their contests so far. First, they defeated Finland 3-1, then they bested the Olympic Athletes from Russia 5-0. The US will next face off against Canada on February 15th.

This puts them at the top of the standings with 12 points, followed by Canada in second place with 10 points, and then the Olympic Athletes from Russia in third place with eight points.

The German women’s Hockey Team is currently ranked first in the world by the International Ice Hockey Federation. The team has won two Olympic gold medals eight World Championships and seven European Championships.
With a 7-0 record, Switzerland is currently on top of the standings for the 2018 Winter Olympics Women’s Hockey Tournament The team has received a boost from the play of goaltender Florence Schelling, who has posted two shutouts so far in the tournament.
