Some of the most successful quarterbacks in NFL history have played their college football at the University of Alabama. The Crimson Tide has produced many great players at the quarterback position, and many of them have gone on to have successful careers in the NFL.
The most successful Alabama quarterback in the NFL is undoubtedly Pro Football Hall of Famer Joe Namath. Namath played for the Crimson Tide from 1962 to 1964, and he was drafted by the New York Jets with the first overall pick in the 1965 NFL Draft. Namath went on to have a legendary career with the Jets, leading them to a victory in Super Bowl III in one of the greatest upsets in sports history.

The Future of Alabama Quarterbacks in the NFL
The quarterbacks in the NFL Draft
The quarterbacks in the NFL Draft are always a highly anticipated group, and this year is no different. Alabama has produced some of the best quarterbacks in recent years, and this year’s draft class features two of them. Tua Tagovailoa and Jalen Hurts are both projected to be first-round picks, and they could go back-to-back.
Both Tagovailoa and Hurts have been successful at the collegiate level, but there are questions about how their game will transition to the NFL. Tagovailoa is coming off of a serious injury, and Hurts is more of a runner than a passer. There are also concerns about Alabama’s offensive system, which has not produced many successful NFL quarterbacks.
Despite all of these questions, there is no doubt that both Tagovailoa and Hurts are talented quarterbacks who could be successful at the next level. It will be exciting to see how they fare in the NFL Draft, and we will be keeping an eye on their careers in the league.
The undrafted free agents
The Crimson Tide has had a quarterback drafted in the first round in three of the last four NFL Drafts, but there could be more success stories coming from the ranks of the undrafted free agents. Alabama has had at least one quarterback taken in each of the last eight drafts, with a high of three in both 2011 and 2012. AJ McCarron (2014), Jake Coker (2016) and Cooper Bateman (2017) all signed as undrafted free agents and have found work in the NFL.
