The Athletic’s Pierre LeBrun reported Thursday that the Sharks are among the teams that have made inquiries about Gaborik, who has three goals and eight assists in 19 games this season.

Gaborik, 36, is in the final year of his contract and is owed $4.875 million this season. He has a modified no-trade clause that gives him 10 team protection list, which he would have to waive if he were to be traded.

The Sharks are currently seventh in the Pacific Division with a 17-16-7 record and are coming off a 3-2 overtime win against the Chicago Blackhawks on Tuesday.

NHL standings

As the NHL continues to realign and restructure its divisions, the standings have been in a constant state of flux over the past few years. However, the current divisional alignment is set to remain in place for at least the next two seasons, so we can take a look at how the teams currently stack up against each other.

NHL standings are determined by a point system, with two points being awarded for a win and one point being awarded for a overtime or shootout loss. In the case of ties, teams are awarded one point each. The team with the most points in their respective division is declared the division winner.

The NHL is currently divided into two conferences, each of which is further divided into three divisions. The Eastern Conference consists of the Atlantic Division Metropolitan Division and Central Division while the Western Conference is made up of the Pacific Division Southwest Division and Northwest Division

In each conference, the division winner with the most points is declared the conference winner and is awarded a berth in the Stanley Cup playoffs. The two conference winners then face off against each other in the Stanley Cup Finals to determine the NHL Champion
