Finally, we took into account the fan support and atmosphere of each program, as well as the strength of their conference competition.

After careful consideration, we came up with the following list of the top college basketball programs in the nation.

A two-time All-American, Russell was also named the National Player of the Year in 1956. He would go on to have an illustrious NBA Career winning 11 championships with the Boston Celtics

9) Lew Alcindor – UCLA

Before he became Kareem Abdul-Jabbar Lew Alcindor was dominating college basketball as a member of UCLA’s “ dynasty “ . He won three National Championships with UCLA and was named the National Player of the Year three times ( 1967, 1968, 1969). An unstoppable force in the post, Alcindor owned the paint and was nearly impossible to stop one-on-one.

8) Jerry WestWest Virginia University

Nicknamed “ Mr. Clutch “ for his ability to hit Big Shots in pressure situations, Jerry West was one of the most feared scorers in College basketball during his time at West Virginia University. A two-time Consensus All-American, West led WVU to the Elite Eight in 1959 before losing to eventual National Champion Kentucky. He would go on to have a Hall of Fame career with the Los Angeles Lakers.

Oscar Robertson put up some of the most mind-boggling numbers in College Basketball history during his time at Cincinnati. As a junior in 1958-59, he averaged an absurd 33.8 points per game and 15.2 rebounds per game while leading the Bearcats to a 27-3 record. Robertson was so good that he was unanimously voted as the National Player of the Year despite Cincinnati not winning a National Championship He would go on to have a stellar NBA career as well and is widely considered one of the greatest players ever.
