There are a lot of things that go into making a prediction for AAC Player of the Year. Obviously, a player’s individual performance is going to be a big factor, but so will his team’s success. A player on a winning team is more likely to get recognition than a player on a losing team, even if his individual numbers are better.
With that in mind, here are some predictions for AAC Player of the Year in 2020-21.
1. RJ Barrett, Duke
2. Trendon Watford LSU
3. Cade Cunningham Oklahoma State
4. Ashton Hagans, Kentucky
5. Jared Butler Baylor
Aac basketball coach Of The Year Predictions
The 2017-2018 American Athletic Conference season is in Full Swing and there are plenty of things still up in the air. Who will win the Regular Season title? Who will take home the Conference Tournament crown? And, perhaps most importantly, who will be named AAC Coach of the Year?
We take a look at the leading contenders for the latter honor and make our predictions for who will take home the hardware come season’s end.
The favorite: Kelvin Sampson Houston
Sampson has done a fantastic job in his two+ years at Houston, leading the Cougars to a 51-15 record overall and a 27-7 mark in AAC play. This year, Houston is off to a 16-2 start (5-0 in AAC) and looks like the team to beat in the conference.
If Sampson can lead Houston to an AAC regular season or tournament title – or both – he will almost certainly be named AAC Coach of the Year. But even if the Cougars don’t quite reach those heights, Sampson’s strong body of work over his time at Houston should be enough to earn him the award.
The dark horse: Frank Haith Tulsa
Haith has been excellent in his four+ years at Tulsa, going 72-49 overall and 42-28 in AAC play. This year, the Golden Hurricane are 14-4 (4-1 in AAC) and sit just behind Houston atop the conference standings.
If Tulsa can end up winning either the AAC regular season or tournament crown – or both – Haith will have a strong case for Coach of the Year honors. Even if Tulsa falls a bit short, Haith’s consistent success over his time at Tulsa could be enough to land him some votes.
Aac Basketball Rookies Of The Year Predictions
With so much talent graduating this year, there will be a lot of new faces in the AAC next season. We predict that these players will make the biggest impact and contend for Rookie of the Year honors.
James Wiseman – Memphis
The 7-foot-1 center was arguably the best player in college basketball this past season, averaging 19.7 points, 10.7 rebounds, and 3 blocks per game. He was a force on both ends of the floor and will be a big reason why Memphis is once again a top team in the AAC next season.
Jalen Suggs – Gonzaga
Suggs is another big man who will make an immediate impact in the AAC. At 6-foot-4, he has good size for a point guard and is an excellent shooter, averaging 14 points per game while shooting 47% from three-point range Hell be one of the best players on a very good Gonzaga team that should compete for an AAC title next season.
Nico Mannion – Arizona
Mannion is another talented point guard who will make an immediate impact in the AAC. A true floor general, he averaged 14 assists per game while also shooting 43% from three-point range. Hell be one of the best players on an Arizona team that should compete for an AAC title next season.
