Tonight:  AJ Styles Vs Sami Zayn

Tonight:  SD Live Tag Team Championship

In-Ring Promo:  AJ Styles

AJ welcomes us to a new year, he welcomes us to Smackdown Live, but more importantly, welcome to the house that AJ Styles built.  It’s a new year, it’s a new beginning and he is sure there are many superstars in the back who have made the New Year’s resolutions, of winning the 30 men Royal Rumble, and headline Wrestlemania.  But here is the thing, AJ has a few resolutions himself.  AJ Styles goals is to keep this WWE Championship to Wrestlemania, and leave Wrestlemania with the WWE Championship.  He also has another resolution, to defeat Sami Zayn tonight.  The question is will Kevin Owens be at ringside?  The General Manager wants to discuss his decisions last week, so come on out Daniel Bryan.  But before Daniel can talk, here comes Shane McMahon.  What’s up Orlando?  He had the best intentions last week when he came into the ring.  He asked the referee to eject Sami Zayn for his interference in AJ Styles Vs Kevin Owens match.  We all like to see a clean finish in a match like that, and his appearance might have cost AJ the match, and he apologizes for that.  The last few months, Shane may have a hidden agenda against Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn, but Daniel may have a more friendly relationship with Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn, which is why he wonders Daniel would allow Sami in Kevin’s corner last week.  But the bigger question is Daniel turning The Yes Movement into the Yep Movement?  Because if Owens involved tonight in Sami’s corner, then Shane will come down to ringside for the main event.  If that is the case, then Kevin Owens might as well be in Sami’s corner, and Daniel will be at ringside too.  AJ is not happy about this, but its set.

Tonight:  Xavier Woods Vs Aidan English in United States Championship Tournament

Next:  SD Live Tag Team Championship

Match Number 1:  The Usos (SD Live Tag Champs) Vs Shelton Benjamin and Chad Gable for SD Live Tag Team Championship

Well, Gable and Benjamin pinned The Usos, hitting their Powerbomb Bodypress combo they did last week, but Benjamin was the legal man, and Gable pinned Jimmy, when Jey was legal.  So we start again.  The match restarts, and the champs retain their titles, with a double superkick, Jey pins Benjamin.  This must continue, right?

Winners, and STILL SD Live Tag Champs:  The Usos, by pinfall

Backstage Interview:  Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn

Renee Young is backstage, she tells Owens and Zayn last week, Owens had Sami in his corner.  But tonight, Daniel Bryan, Shane, and Owens will be at ringside, so will this have a different outcome?  Owens answers this question, last week he had oatmeal for breakfast, this morning he had a omlette, that is different.  Yep.  Last week, they were in Chicago, tonight they are in Orlando.  That is different.  Yep, but what will happen tonight is the same result, because they will take care of the House that AJ Styles built.  Yep.  Shane has the nerve to accuse Daniel Bryan of playing favoritism, but it’s still The Sami and Kevin Show, no matter who is out there.  Yep.

Tonight:  6-Women Tag Match

Next:  The Bludgeon Brothers vs Breezango

The match never takes place, The Bludgeon Brothers took out both Breezango and The Ascension in one full swoon.  Moving on.

Winners:  No Contest

Backstage Segment:  The New Day

Kofi and Big E plans a surprise party for Xavier, with a cake out of pancakes.  But Rusev and Aidan English show up.  Aidan’s New Years wish is everyday would be Rusev Day.  (It isn’t?), and it will be after English wins the United States Championship.  Rusev tells them they act like children, and Rusev blows out the candles.

Next:  English Vs Woods

Video:  Mojo Rawley

Mojo talks about their match next week, when Mojo takes out Zack, and ends his career once and for all.

Match Number 3:  Xavier Woods Vs Aidan English in a First Round United States Tournament

Xavier Woods picks up the win with an elbow drop off the top rope.  Rusev is beside himself on Rusev Day.  Xavier will now face Jinder Mahal in the semi-final to the United States Tournament.

Winner, and advances to Semi-Finals:  Xavier Woods, by pinfall

Backstage Interview:  The Welcoming Committee

Dasha tells us all four women have entered in the Women’s Royal Rumble match.  The Welcoming Committee let The Riott Squad have their fun in 2017, but now business will be taken care of.

The Riott Squad picks up the win after Liv Morgan clipped Tamina in the knee, and Sara Logan nails her knee into Tamina’s neck for the win.

Winners:  The Riott Squad, by pinfall

In-Ring Promo:  The Riott Squad

Ruby tells us she doesn’t believe in magic, because it’s not real.  But they are, everything they represent are real.  And the entire Riott Squad is joining The Royal Rumble match, and here comes Charlotte Flair.  She congratulates them on the win, and quite the speech.  But she will disagree with Ruby there, she too is a dreamer and she believes in the power of magic in achieving your dreams.  Ruby said she believes in reality?  So here is a dose of reality, and she wants to introduce Ruby to someone who can teach her that lesson.  It’s Orlando’s own Naomi.  And here is another person who wants to make them pay for their actions, Becky Lynch.  All 3 women take care of The Riott Squad.

Next:  AJ Styles Vs Sami Zayn

Video:  Baron Corbin

Baron has entered himself into the Royal Rumble match, he can’t wait for this, and he can’t wait to main event Wrestlemania.

Match Number 5:  AJ Styles (WWE Champ) Vs Sami Zayn in a non-title match

Yep, everything you thought would happen, did happen.  The referee Mike Chiotta had a ref bump, Kevin Owens looked to Mike, but he blocked him from counting the pin when AJ had Sami rolled up.  Shane shoves Owens, he orders the ref to eject Owens, and Daniel kicks out Shane.  Owens trips AJ, Sami hits a Helluva Kick, and pins Styles for the win.  After the match, AJ has had enough of all of this bickering, and suggests a Handicap match against the WWE Champion at Royal Rumble.  Daniel Bryan agrees with it, and the match is official, so we end the show here.

Winner:  Sami Zayn, by pinfall

Kevin’s Thoughts:

This was a mess, even the main event couldn’t save this.  I am sure next week, Shane will tweak the rules here, and make this a Triple Threat match.  But no Bobby Roode, and that is not GLORIOUS.  The United States Title Final will take place at Royal Rumble, so this tournament will continue to drag on, despite thinking we will have Bobby Roode Vs Jinder Mahal.  I loved seeing Becky Lynch return, but did not care for The Riott Squad Vs The Welcoming Committee match, just was there.  What were your thoughts on the show?  Sound off here.
