Browns vs Buccaneers

The Cleveland Browns defeated the New York Football Giants tonight 10-6. The Browns are now 2-0 in the preseason surpassing their win total from last season. There were a lot of positives tonight for the Browns, let’s take a look at a few of them.

DeShone Kizer is a work in progress

Kizer was in for four drives tonight against the Giants. He went 8-13 for 74 yards with 5 carries for 35 yards and a touchdown.

It is very clear that Kizer is the best quarterback on the roster, however there are still a few things that he needs to clean up. The pocket presence is not completely there yet. A few occasions tonight Kizer held onto the ball too long.

Now this can be said for both Kizer and Brock Osweiler. We need to see these quarterbacks with the full starting offensive line. It seems the Hue Jackson has had to change his playcalling without the starting offensive line in there. There were multiple tight end sets to help Rod Johnson and Shon Coleman out with the pass protection.

Clearly, the best drive from Kizer tonight was not the touchdown drive but the field goal drive. It was a 15-play, 68-yard drive that took 7:37. The Browns were helped out by a penalty that kept the drive alive.

Kizer not only showed his arm talent but he also showed how he can move with his feet. He just needs to learn when to get down and not take extra hits.

Kizer just missed a deep ball to David Njoku who made his preseason debut. The throw needed a little more touch on it.

Peppers continues to impress

Jabrill Peppers, the rookie out of Michigan, is absolutely electric on the gridiron. Whenever he touches the ball, it is must-see television.

Peppers had one good returned called back due to holding but also had a 35-yard return.

There was even an instance where Peppers was in on offense when Kizer had his one-yard touchdown run. Peppers is going to be a difference maker this season.

Have a Day, Dayes

Undrafted Rookie Matthew Dayes continues to impress during camp and the preseason. It is very clear that Dayes is going to make this roster and is going to be an option as we move into the regular season.

Dayes has a good mix of speed and hands as he is able to catch the ball out of the backfield. If Duke Johnson is going to play more as a receiver, then you will see Dayes on the field a lot more to spell Isaiah Crowell.

Joe Schobert is all over the field

Schobert is all over the football field this preseason.

New defensive coordinator Gregg Williams asked Schobert to lose 15 pounds this offseason. The result? Schobert is much faster on the football field.

Tank Carder was injured tonight in the game and it is not known at this time what the injury is.

Based on the first two games, Schobert is the starter at middle linebacker.

The Injuries are piling up

As mentioned above, Tank Carder left the game with an injury. David Njoku got his ankle rolled up on and did not return to the game. The safety position took another blow tonight with Justin Currie getting injured. Reserve lineman Brian McCants was carted off the field.
