Video:  Last Week on SD Live

AJ Styles won the Battle Royal last week on Smackdown Live, and this weekend at Madison Square Garden, AJ Styles became the new United States Champion, defeating Kevin Owens.

In-Ring Promo:  AJ Styles

The crowd is chanting his name, and he said Battleground came a little early for AJ Styles.  And he wouldn’t say he is “The Face of America”, but Kevin Owens looks like a monkey’s butt, so it’s an upgrade.  But this isn’t about AJ Styles, this isn’t about Kevin Owens, this is about The United States Championship.  There was a man who was United States Champion, he’d come around and put up a United States Open Challenge, to prove that he is the very best.  This title needs to be held to a higher ground, and AJ wants to prove he is the very best, so he wants to do another United States Open Challenge, and it starts right now.

The man who answers the challenge?  John Cena.  John Cena Vs AJ Styles?  Any day of the week.  John asks AJ if he meant what he said, so anyone can challenge AJ, except Cena?  AJ said this, specifically for John, so the match is on.

Well, they did the announcement, raised the US Title, but right before the rang the bell, here comes….Kevin Owens.

Kevin said nobody wants to see this match, we have seen this match a million times before, nobody cares.  The only thing people should care about is the rightful man who should own that title gets it back, and it’s Kevin Owens.  Why is John back?  Nobody missed you, we don’t need you here, and that is Kevin’s title, so why don’t you go back where you came from, nobody wants to see you here.  Cena said it’s not that nobody wants to see him, it’s that Owens can’t see him.  Owens sounds just like anyone else who have come here, if you want Cena gone, you step up, and do something about it.  But if you step through these ropes, Cena will run through you, and then Cena will run through AJ.  But here comes Rusev from the other side, laying out AJ, and tried to lay out Cena.  Rusev nails Cena and gives him the Accolade, while Owens clips Styles.  Kevin Owens and Rusev made a statement.

Tonight:  Shinsuke Nakamura Vs Baron Corbin

Next:  Jinder Mahal Vs Tye Dillinger

Tonight:  John Cena and AJ Styles Vs Kevin Owens and Rusev

Match Number 1:  Jinder Mahal (WWE Champ) Vs Tye Dillinger in a non-title match

This was an opportunity for Dillinger, and he didn’t get much offense in.  The WWE Champion controlled most of the match here, and pinned him with a Khallas.

Winner:  Jinder Mahal, by pinfall

In-Ring Promo:  Jinder Mahal

Week after week, he continues to prove everything he says to be true, yet the fans continue to disrespect him.  Randy Orton, you bring up how you want to destroy his family?  Next week, he is bringing the Punjabi Structure, and he will continue to make Randy Orton’s life a living hell.

Next:  Xavier Woods Vs Jey Uso

Match Number 2:  Jey Uso (SD Live Tag Champ) Vs Xavier Woods

Things got a little heavy, so referee Charles Robinson kicked Jimmy Uso, Kofi, and Big E out of ringside.  This was a short match, with Xavier picking up the win with a flying tope.  In 12 days, at Battleground, New Day gets another shot at the Tag Team Titles against The Uso’s.

Winner:  Xavier Woods, by pinfall

Tonight:  Corbin Vs Nakamura

Backstage Segment:  Shane McMahon

Shane is approached by Naomi, she wants to know who she defends her title against, and don’t say Lana.  Charlotte said Shane better not say Lana, Becky wants a shot, as does Tamina and Lana.  Shane says at Battleground, there is a 5-Way Elimination Match, with Charlotte Vs Becky Vs Natalya Vs Tamina Vs Lana, and the winner faces Naomi at Summerslam.  Charlotte wants to know why Lana is in this match, with Tamina and Natalya backing Lana up.  Shane gives us a woman’s tag match of Charlotte and Becky Vs Natalya and Tamina.  Carmella wants Shane to look at a petition drawn up by her lawyer to re-instate Ellsworth.  Shane rips it up, there is your answer.

Backstage Interview:  Baron Corbin

Renee Young makes an appearance, she brings up Shinsuke saying Baron is afraid of Nakamura, and we see footage of Corbin attacking Shinsuke from behind.  Baron said we will see how afraid Nakamura is, and it will be sayonara Nakamura.

Match Number 3:  Shinsuke Nakamura Vs Baron Corbin

The match never takes place because Shinsuke attacks Baron before the bell rang, and the two men continue to fight into the crowd.

Winner:  No Contest

Backstage Segment:  John Cena and AJ Styles

Cena wants another shot at the US Title, and AJ was hoping he’d answer it, because this title means he is the very best and he plans on holding on to the title for a very long time.  Cena respects that, they will handle business down the road, but for tonight, Cena has AJ’s back.  And AJ has Cena’s back.

Next:  Charlotte and Becky Vs Natalya and Tamina

Match Number 4:  Charlotte and Becky Lynch Vs Natalya and Tamina Snuka

This was a grueling battle here with Becky and Charlotte fighting Natalya and Tamina, and in the middle of the match Lana comes down to distract Charlotte.  Natalya made a tag to Tamina, without Charlotte knowing, and Tamina gave her a Superkick for the win.

Winners:  Natalya and Tamina Snuka, by pinfall

Tonight:  Cena and Styles Vs Owens and Rusev

Backstage Segment:  Maria Kanellis

Maria is looking for Sami Zayn and Chad Gable shows up, he is not in the locker room, and Maria wants Sami to apologize to the First Lady of Professional Wrestling, so give him the message.

Backstage Segment:  Sami, Maria, and Mike

Mike and Maria are fondling all over each other, but Sami wants to know what they want, Maria wants another apology.  Sami denies this request, and wants to know if Mike even competes, and Maria nails him with a vase.

Video:  Sexy Fashion Rangers

Breezy and Fandango believed Zack Ryder jumped them from behind.  Zack had nothing to do with that, and Mojo told them they were looking for Shane and Daniel that night to look for a Tag Team Title shot.  They didn’t have time for messing with Breezango, and we see a bit of bickering between Zack and Mojo over Mojo throwing Ryder over the top rope, but this was every man for themself.  Someone just stole Fandango’s horse.  Who did it?  Ghosts and Aliens?

Match Number 5:  AJ Styles (US Champ) and John Cena vs Kevin Owens and Rusev

This was a fun match here featuring 4 of the biggest and brightest stars Smackdown Live has to offer.  Cena and Styles picks up the win, when Styles nails a Phenomenal Forearm on Kevin Owens, and Cena nails an Attitude Adjustment.  The show ends with Cena and Styles celebrating in the ring.

Winners:  John Cena and AJ Styles, by pinfall

Kevin’s Thoughts:

I liked tonight’s episode, we had another no contest for a match, something that has been happening often with Corbin, but we get a Battleground match between Corbin Vs Nakamura.  The main event was good, and we get a preview of a future Cena Vs Styles match?  For tonight at least, they picked up the win.  Another 5-way match, and Naomi at the moment doesn’t seem to have anything going heading to Battleground, maybe that changes?  What were your thoughts of the show?  Send them to me here.
