Last week was a tough week for Browns fans and now today the news of RG3 being down has really made it tough for a lot of fans out there. My job is to bring a historical light to the Cleveland Browns and their opponents. I have decided to reflect on two wins this week. We all know the history between the former Cleveland Browns (the Ravens) and the current incarnation of the Cleveland Browns.
October 11, 2015: Browns at Ravens: 33-30 OT
The Browns have won very few games against their division opponents. With McCown going down in the opener against the Jets with his famous helicopter move, Johnny Manziel ended up taking over for him in the Titans game. McCown got his job back and had two tough losses against the Raiders and Chargers. McCown was poised to get a win for the Browns and he came out firing. He completed 36/51 passes for 457 yards and 2 TDS. He also ran one in for 3 total touchdowns.
Gary Barnidge was one of those touchdowns along with 8 receptions and 139 yards Big Play Gar helped the Browns stay in the game. It was back and forth the Entire game. The Browns were able to pull it out in OT with a 32 yard FG from Travis Coons. The Browns first win in Baltimore since 2007 when they swept both games that season.
November 11,2007: Browns at Ravens: 33-30 OT
You are not seeing double the Browns last two wins in Baltimore both came in OT and both were 3 point wins with the same score. I thought it was interesting so I decided to look into the win in 2007. As many remember the 2007 season was the last season the Browns had playoff hopes. The Browns had already collected a in in September at home against the Ravens. They came into Baltimore trying to keep pace for the playoffs. A back and forth battles ensued. The stats were not that great this day. Anderson did not look his best. He threw a pick six to Ray Lewis in the 2nd quarter which cut the Browns lead to 3. Not to be outdone Brodney Pool took a Kyle Boller pass and took it all the way to the house for a 100 yard pick six. The game continued to be back and forth. It was all tied up at 30 after a crazy Phil Dawson 51 yard FG.
The Browns took that momentum into the OT period and won the game on another FG from Phil Dawson.
Both victories are rare for the Browns. Cleveland has always struggles within the division and even more with the Ravens. Browns are 9-25 against the Ravens. Let’s hope we can make that 10-25 Sunday! Go Browns! As always… BLEEP MODELL!!!
